I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your despatch No.389 of 11th November, 1938, regarding the

writing off of arrears of revenue on the authority of officers

other than the Colonial Secretary, and to inform you that in

anticipation of your approval the Director of Medical Services

has been authorised to remit hospital fees, subject to a limit

of $200 in any individual case, as suggested in the second

paragraph of your despatch, and provided that remission is

only made by him on compassionate grounds; other cases, e.g.,

failures to recover fees actually due will be submitted to

the Financial Secretary.

exercised by the Colonial Treasurer should now vest in the

Financial Secretary and not in the Accountant-General.
